'City Hall, Dublin'
Dublin City Hall is an important historic building located beside Dublin Castle in the heart of the city.
Completed in 1779, it was designed by architect Thomas Cooley as the Royal Exchange, where Dublin’s merchants gathered to conduct trade and business. The building is known for its impressive neoclassical architecture, particularly the grand rotunda beneath a large central dome. In 1851, the building was purchased by Dublin Corporation and became the official City Hall, serving as the centre of Dublin’s local government.
Over time it has witnessed many important civic events as Ireland moved from British rule toward independence following the Easter Rising. Today, Dublin City Hall continues to host civic functions and public exhibitions about the city’s history.
It is also a popular wedding venue, with civil ceremonies often held in the elegant rotunda, where couples can marry surrounded by the building’s historic architecture and ornate interior.
