'The Ha'Penny Bridge, Dublin'

Ha'penny Bridge is one of Dublin’s most recognizable landmarks  and the city’s first pedestrian bridge over the River Liffey.  Opened in 1816, it was designed by English engineer John Windsor and officially named the Wellington Bridge.

To cover construction and maintenance costs, pedestrians were required to pay a toll of half a penny,  which led to the popular nickname “Ha’penny Bridge.”  The toll remained in place for about a century before being removed in 1919.

Over time,  the elegant cast-iron structure became an iconic feature of the city centre,  connecting the north and south sides of Dublin and symbolizing the everyday life and history of the capital.  Today, it remains one of Dublin’s most photographed bridges  and an important historic crossing point over the River Liffey.

This art print, is a prefect gift and can be shipped to most parts of the world and is especially well suited as a gift for birthdays, a housewarming gift or as a wonderful memory of Dublin and Ireland.
